Davina McCall on Changing Rooms comeback "Everyone's going decor mad"

Image
Bring on colour, patterns, textures and imagination… Minimalism begone! Changing Rooms is back and it’s bringing interior design legend Laurence Llewelyn Bowen with it. Channel 4, in partnership with Dulux, has commissioned Shine TV (part of Banjay UK) to make a new version of the legendary ‘90s and ‘00s home-DIY series, giving it a fresh lick of paint for an era of pinspiration and insta-interiors. Presented by Davina McCall, Changing Rooms sees two sets of homeowners from the same neighbourhood work against the clock to renovate a room in each other’s houses. They might not share the same tastes, but they are completely in charge of creating a new look for the chosen room – and anything goes. The homeowners will be making all the decisions about the makeovers, and as a nation of interiors and style obsessives, expectations are higher than ever. In true Changing Rooms style, the transformations will be spectacular, innovative and, quite possibly, unexpected. Along the way, our bol

Why comedian Matt Forde loves doing the voice of Donald Trump for Spitting Image

Image
The voice of Donald Trump in the new Spitting Image series said the US President “gives you a licence to say such daft things”. Comedian Matt Forde, who also does Boris Johnson, said: “It’s funny to hear people who are in ultimate authority saying and doing such ludicrous things. It’s a joy. “I really go for it and turn it up a dial to make both Trump and Boris even more ridiculous.” A new version of Spitting Image will be broadcast on streaming channel Britbox, with the familiar puppets again made by Roger Law. The first instalment in the Eighties on ITV ran to 18 series and made famous the puppets of Margaret Thatcher, John Major and Norman Tebbitt. This time it’s a whole new suite of celebs and politicians, including one for Mr & Mrs Covid.       Comedian Matt Forde said: “Everyone gets a good slap. In that respect, it’s a plague on every house. “I’ve been impersonating Boris and Trump for years, and on the last two or three tours I’ve done they’ve been such a big part of it.”

Why Gavin & Stacey actress Alison Steadman doesn't drive like her Life character Gail

Image
TV legend Alison Steadman wants everyone to know that her driving is nowhere near as erratic as her character’s efforts in Life, the new midweek drama on BBC1 by Doctor Foster writer, Mike Barlett. The actress plays Gail who in the first episode almost mows down an old friend in Manchester as she races to collect her husband Henry (Peter Davison) from the hospital. Speeding through the back streets of Manchester, her concentration waives as she talks to Henry on the phone. “I hate speeding actually,” she said at a launch. “The older I’ve got, the slower I’ve got.” She added: “I don’t drive like Gail -- but I do like her as a character. I loved going on a journey with her.” In the drama, a house in Manchester has been divided into four flats, and we are introduced to four interweaving stories about love, parenthood, loss and self-discovery. Along with Steadman’s storyline, the ordered life of Belle (Victoria Hamilton, reprising her role from Doctor Foster) is thrown into disarray by the

When is the new Princess Diana documentary on? airdate

Image
The Queen described Princess Diana’s sensational Panorama interview with Martin Bashir as a “frightful thing that my daughter-in-law did,” a new TV show will claim. The surprise revelation comes from former BBC Governor and Royal National Theatre boss Richard Eyre in a documentary that also uncovers that the BBC decided against officially telling Buckingham Palace about the controversial interview, and that Diana was “rehearsed” to answer the questions. The feature length film, Diana: The Interview That Shocked The World tells the story of how a virtually unknown journalist, Martin Bashir, landed the interview of the century in 1995. But it’s the revelation of the Queen’s attitude to the Panorama interview that will surprise observers since the monarch rarely gives her opinion on issues if at all. Said Richard Eyre: “I had lunch with the Queen not long after [the interview went out]. She said to me unprompted, ‘How are things at the BBC?’ I said, ‘Fine’. She said, ‘Frightful thing to d

EXCLUSIVE Top Gear stars Paddy McGuinness and Freddie Flintoff keep secret dangerous stunts like Wall of Death from families

Image
Top Gear stars have revealed they keep secret from their families any daredevil stunts for the BBC One show because they “would talk themselves out of doing them”. Both presenters Paddy McGuiness and Freddie Flintoff have admitted they don't tell their wives about anything that might put their lives in peril. The show has a history of calamity. Richard Hammond suffered a life-threatening brain injury when he crashed a rocket car on an airstrip in 2006. Several years later he made a miraculous escape from a burning electric car after a hill climb. Flintoff has now taken on the daredevil mantle, driving a car off the wall of a dam on the end of a bungee rope. All three have attempted to drive around the so-called “Wall of Death”. Flintoff said he’s not shied away from any stunt yet. “So far there’s been nothing I've said ‘no’ to but that might change because after doing the bungee in the last series. It seems the challenges get more and more scary. We did the wall of death which
